The line “And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air” brought to mind the struggles and victories that have shaped our nation.

The anthem’s stirring conclusion, “O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave,” resonated deeply, encapsulating the hopes and dreams of the graduates as they embarked on their future endeavors. This Memorial Day weekend, as we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2024, we also take a moment to honor the veterans and fallen soldiers who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. We are humbled and grateful for their service and for Jonathan David Peterson’s heartfelt contribution to this special day. It is a time to remember those who have fought and continue to fight to keep our country free, ensuring that future generations can pursue their dreams.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the colors by the Chipley High School Junior ROTC, followed by Jonathan David Peterson’s rendition of the national anthem. The sense of reverence and respect was palpable as attendees stood in honor of the flag and the freedoms it represents.

Following the anthem, the class of 2024 was led in a prayer by a fellow graduate. The prayer was a heartfelt expression of gratitude for the blessings and guidance received throughout their high school journey. It acknowledged the support of teachers, family, and friends who had encouraged and nurtured them along the way. The graduate prayed for continued strength and guidance as they stepped into the next chapter of their lives, asking that they always remember to put God first in all they do.

Senior Class President Owen Paige then took the stage to address his classmates, family members, faculty, and the school board. He spoke with pride about the hard work and dedication that had brought them to this day. Paige reflected on the journey of the graduates, acknowledging the many challenges they had faced and overcome together. He emphasized the importance of resilience, unity, and striving for excellence, values that had been instilled in them throughout their high school years.

These achievements, Paige noted, were a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and teamwork of the graduates.

He also paid tribute to Coach Dixon, a beloved teacher and mentor who had passed away before their final year. Dixon had left a lasting impact on many students through his teaching, coaching, and unwavering positivity. Paige recited a poem, “See It Through” by Edgar Albert Guest, which Dixon had often shared with his students. The poem’s message of resilience and determination resonated deeply with the graduates, embodying the spirit of the Class of 2024.
